OLD ORCHARD BRANDS TO DONATE 54,000 BOTTLES OFJUICE TO HURRICANE CHARLEY VICTIMS AND RELIEF ORGANIZATIONS
JACKSONVILLE, Fla., August, 20, 2004 — Florida-based Publix Super Markets has teamed up with one of its suppliers, Sparta-Mich.-based, Old Orchard Brands to provide 54,000 bottles of juice to relief agencies and victims of Hurricane Charley. Old Orchard’s $125,000 in-kind donation of a variety of its best selling 100% juice and juice cocktails will be sent to Publix’s Lakeland, Fla., regional distribution center for dissemination to the areas hardest hit by Hurricane Charley.
Four semi-trailers will be loaded today at Old Orchard’s headquarters and production facility in Sparta, Mich., north of Grand Rapids and are expected to arrive in Florida within a few days. Publix will then oversee the distribution of the 112 pallets of juice containing 6,720 cases or 54,000 bottles of 64-oz juice products.
“It’s terrible when natural disasters such as Hurricane Charley displace thousands of families and individuals,” said Dwaine Stevens, community relations manager for Publix. “Teaming up with Old Orchard to help our customers, and theirs, in a time of need is the least we can do. The next several weeks are going to continue to be challenging for the residents of Florida, but Publix will the help of others will make sure we do what we can to make sure that they have basic food essentials.”
In 2003, Old Orchard made a similar donation to the victims of the tragic California Wild Fires through the Feed the Children organization.
“We’re a small privately owned juice producer and this is a big donation for our company,” said Michael McDonald, vice president of Sales and Marketing for Old Orchard Brands said. “Working with Publix, and its same values toward the community seemed like the best way to help the hurricane victims and relief agencies.”
Publix, with 610 stores in Florida has been working with United Way, the American Red Cross and the Salvation Army to help meet the needs of individuals in affected communities. In addition to coordinating distribution of the Old Orchard juice products, Publix continues to donate trailer-loads of water and ice and it has established a Hurricane Charley Relief fund that allows customers to add any amount they wish to their grocery total when checking out at Publix registers.
